Schriftsteller, Filmemacher, Physiotherapeut und Astrologe, geboren am 26. August 1957 um 9:56 in Westberlin. Jürgen Hoppmann lebt »in the middle of nowhere« zwischen Old Europe und New Europe. Es komme seiner Auffassung nach auf den Blickwinkel an, wie man in diesen Ort hinein- bzw. aus ihm herausschaut. Eines stehe auf jeden Fall fest: Der schönste Platz von Görlitz sei Zgorzelec. Wer’s nicht glaubt, soll sich auf die Reise machen. ;-)

Kunst und Sterne

Bei der Horoskopdeutung bevorzugt Hoppmann feministische Astrologie – das heißt, er berücksichtigt nicht nur Chiron und Rahu, sondern auch Ketu, Lilith und Priapus, wie in seinen astrologischen Bücher und Computerprogrammen entnehmbar. Seit 1990 kooperierte er mit Akron C.F. Frey, Laurids Pedersen, Ananda Bagley, Anita Cortesi, Astrid Fallon und Hans-Hinrich Taeger. Er portierte die Werke namhafter Astrologen wie Akron C. F. Frey, Raymond Daelman, Baldur Ebertin und Alexander von Pronay auf Softwareplattformen wie PCA, Argus, Hermes, Galistro und AstroGlobe und veröffentlichte eigene Deutungstexte.

Nachdem er bei Otto Kayser und Wolfgang Trautmann in Westberlin Astrologie studiert hatte, unterrichtete er das Fach im Westen sowie von 1980 bis 1985 konspirativ und undercover in der Theater- und Künstlerszene der DDR. Als die Mauer fiel, interviewte er u.a. Claude Weiss in seiner wöchentlichen Sendung auf Radio 100.

Hoppmann trug unter anderem Daten zu Gregor Gysi und Joachim Gauck zusammen. Bei der Datenrecherche tauschte er sich aus mit Werner E. Neumann, Jayatissa Dharmadasa, Jany Bessiere, Gufran Erkelic, Claudia von Schierstedt, Siegbert Meß, Heinz Specht, Dr. Svatopluk Svobod, Richard Vetter, Alexander von Vietinghoff und dessen Schüler Axel Becker, sowie Hans-Hinrich Taeger, der Astrological Association of Great Britain , (beigetreten nach Ausstieg aus dem DAV), sowie den astrologischen Gesellschaften Südafrikas und Neuseelands.

Von 1993 bis 1997 kuratierte er eine Museumsausstellung zu Philipp Melanchthon in der Lutherstadt Wittenberg. Zwischen 1998 und 2000 folgten weitere Projekte zu Doktor Faustus und Antiken Sternengöttern, Abguss-Sammlung Antiker Plastik Berlin und einem AA-Kongress in Großbritannien. Hinzu „Melanchthons Astrologie“ (Katalog zur Wittenberger Ausstellung) bis hin zu „Astrologie der Reformationszeit“ (1998).

Als freier Mitarbeiter öffentlich-rechtlicher Sendeanstalten arbeitete er von 1990 bis 2004 u.a. beim RBB, ORF und MDR. Er trat in Film und Fernsehen auf, synchronisierte Animationsfilme, arbeitete mit Künstlern zusammen. Als Drehbuchautor und Regisseur produzierte er von 2003 bis 2007 den Spielfilm AstroEuros, wobei er als Darsteller u.a. den Astrologen Winfried S. Noé sowie die Sänger Linda Jo Rizzo und Ron Williams gewinnen konnte. Wöchentliche Kabelfernsehen-Beiträge deutsch und polnisch via ZZmedia (Stellarius, Madame Stella) 2010 bis 2013. Seitdem jährliche Stellar Constellations in Kooperation mit Electric Ephemeris. An die zweihundert Videoclips und Lehrfilme für die Philosophie-Erlebniswelt „Sofia“im LebensGut Pommritz.

Es folgten astrologische Fachpublikationen und Romane: 2021 "Der Astrologe - eine gänzlich unwahre Geschichte" (illustriert von Lorenzo Gori, Hörbuch Moritz Manuel Michel, englisch Philip Fairweather, polnisch Krystyna Sławińska) und 2023 "Die Herzheilerin" (illustriert von Patricia Cooney). In Vorbereitung "Der Sänger, der alles sieht", illustriert von Aleksandra Ozimek.

Ende 2025 erschien „Ebertin – Licht und Schatten der deutschen Astrologie im 20. Jahrhundert“, wobei die Pionierarbeit der US-amerikanischen Astrologin, Kunsthistorikerin und Filmwissenschaftlerin Jenn Zahrt gewürdigt und erweitert wurde. In seiner kritischer Studie stellt Hoppmann dem Leben und Werk von Elsbeth Ebertin, ihrem Sohn Reinhold und ihrem Neffen Baldur (insbesondere während der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus) die Biografien polnischer Astrologen wie Robert Maria Walter, Leszek Szuman und Leszek Weres entgegen, in der Zeit des Holocaust und dem anschließenden Stalinismus. Thematisiert wird sowohl Nazi-Raubgut als auch Stasi-Raubgut astrologischer Provenienz in Privatbesitz und antiquarischen Buchhandlungen. Politisch ist Jürgen G. H. Hoppmann bei VOLT Europa beheimatet.

Veröffentlichungen

Hoppmann ignoriert in seinen Werken gängige Ost-West-Kategorien und Rechts-Links-Lagerdenken. Vielmehr er sich astrologisch an Akron C.F. Frey und Liz Greene, historisch an Katja Hoyer und Nicholas Campion, in seinen Filmen an Wolfgang Kohlhaase und Alejandro Jodorowsky, belletristische Vorbilder sind Colin Cotterill und Wolfgang Herrndorf.

Zahlreiche Fachmagazin-Artikel erschienen u.a. bei Hagia Chora und Friedrich Meiers merCur, sind archiviert bei Nicholas Compions Culture and Cosmos und ASTROLOGIE HEUTE, nicht jedoch im MERIDIAN-Archiv unter Markus Jehle und Martin Garms. Dies ist bemerkenswert, speziell was das Thema Nazi-Astrologie und DDR-Staatssicherheit betrifft. Diesbezügliche Artikel des ehemaligen DAV-Vorsitzenden Christoph Schubert-Weller sind genauso wenig verfügbar wie jener des DDR-Astrogen Martin Finsterbusch aus dem Jahr 1990. Stattdessen wurde er 2025/2026 im Ebertin-Buch von Jürgen Hoppmann abgedruckt.

  2. Rezension zu "Astrologie der Reformationszeit" von Rüdiger Plantiko: Es gibt viele Wege, die Astrologie kennenzulernen. Einer davon ist, sich mit einer Kulturepoche zu befassen, in der die Astrologie in voller Blüte stand. Über das Studium der Biographien einzelner Gestalten der Astrologiegeschichte darf man hoffen, der Praxis der Astrologie näherzukommen. Wer diesen Weg gehen will - oder wer sich einfach von dem bunten und lebensfrohen Panorama bezaubern lassen will, das der Verfasser von der Zeit des Humanismus und der Renaissance vor unseren Augen enthüllt, - dem sei die Astrologie der Reformationszeit wärmstens empfohlen.
    In zwölf Kapiteln - den Tierkreiszeichen themenentsprechend - führt uns der Autor zwölf verschiedene Blickwinkel vor, unter denen sich das Thema Astrologie zur Reformationszeit darbietet. Es ist die Zeit wahnwitziger Sintflutprognosen, die Zeit gewaltiger politischer und religiöser Umbrüche. Die Bauernkriege sind der Anfang vom Ende der Feudalherrschaft. Mit der Reformation erlebt das Christentum die seit seiner Gründung wohl schwersten Erschütterungen. Buchdruck und Universitätsgründungen stehen für ein Ende des "finsteren Mittelalters", für eine Zeit, in der Bildung und Geist wieder zu ihrem Recht kommen - obwohl sich zugleich finsterster Aberglaube verbreitet, obwohl eine Inquisition mit ihren Massenmorden beginnt. Was Wunder, daß auch die Lebensbeschreibungen der Astrologen aus dieser Zeit sich beinahe wie ein Roman lesen, so bewegt sind sie. Hoppmann erzählt uns von Johannes Carion und seinen astro-politischen Verwicklungen, von Johann Stöfflers mißverständlicher Ephemeriden-Randbemerkung, von Giordano Bruno, Lucas Gauricus, Johannes Schöner - und natürlich von jenem legendären Doktor Johann Faust, der bereits im Buchtitel angekündigt ist. Auch der grimmige Astrologiegegner Pico della Mirandola kommt zu Wort, der sich schon damals über die "Dreistigkeit" empörte, "mit der sich die Astrologie dem Kreis der Wissenschaften zugesellt". Die genannten Astrologen (nicht Pico, natürlich) gehören in den Umkreis des Reformators Philipp Melanchthon, dessen Leben und Wirken an der Wittenberger Leucorea eine Art inneres Band dieses Buchs darstellt.
    Einige Leckerbissen, bislang nur in Latein verfügbar, werden erstmalig in deutscher Sprache vorgestellt: Der erste Teil der berühmten Oratio Dignitate Astrologiae, 1535 von seinem Schüler Jacob Millich gehalten, und der als Vorrede für Sacroboscos 'De Sphaera' verwendete Brief Melanchthons an den Astrologen Simon Gryneus, hier in voller Länge gedruckt. Das Buch ist reich und ansprechend mit Abbildungen verziert. Den Kapiteln folgen Auszüge aus der 'Astronomia Teutsch' (1583) mit Deutungstexten über die Zeichen und Planeten und mancherlei weiteren Angaben, so über den Aderlass, über Sonnenuhren und "der Stunden Regenten und Erwehlungen in allen Anfängen". Eine sehr empfehlenswerte Lektüre für alle Freunde der Astrologie!

Rezension von Otto Kayser zu "Der Astrologe – eine gänzlich unwahre Geschichte": Besonders ist es den Astrologen selbst zu empfehlen: Sie erfahren darin viel über sich und den Werdegang der Astrologie in den letzten Jahrzehnten. Sicher der Stil selbst, das sprachliche Niveau ist etwas ruppig und gewöhnungsbedürftig, kein feingeistig-esoterisches Gesäusel, dafür realistisch handfest und Sex wird dabei nicht ausgespart. Eine deftige Sprache, wie sie heute gesprochen wird. Und obwohl wild international herumgereist wird, ist die Handlung in Deutschland/Dresden geerdet.
    Es ist aber kaum anzunehmen, dass von traditionellen Astrologen selbst besonders gute Kritiken kommen werden. Aus persönlicher Erfahrung mit Astrologieverbänden weiß ich, wie prüde-verklemmt und rückständig das Klima dort ist. Diese künstlerische Umsetzung der Astrologie ist vermutlich auch für viele Astrologen zu fortschrittlich - wassermännisch - mögen sie sich auch trendig psychologische Astrologen nennen. Das Buch ist allen zu empfehlen die sich neue Ufer der alten Wissenschaft Astrologie erschließen wollen, und dies noch dazu auf sehr kurzweilige spannende Weise tun wollen.
    Da die Trivialastrologie gerade wieder einmal einen Boom erlebt, kommt dieses Buch gerade richtig, um darauf aufmerksam zu machen, was mit der Astrologie auch machbar ist, dass sie z.b. auch eine künstlerische Umsetzung ermöglicht. Schon Schiller holte sich für den "Wallenstein" bei Goethe astrologischen Rat. Der Autor hat sich bereits sehr vielseitig mit der künstlerischen Umsetzung astrologischer Themen beschäftigt, in Kunstausstellungen und filmen und in kritischen historischen Untersuchungen. Er ist aber gleichzeitig auch ein fähiger Programmierer und Berater. So ist das Buch auch ein Mix aus Phantasie, Esoterik, Mystery, fakten und »Fakes«, Geheimgesellschaften und kritischer Geschichtsbetrachtung geworden. Man kann es auf verschiedenen ebenen lesen: oberflächlich als reinen Reißer oder Sciencefiction, oder tiefer gehend als verschlüsselte Darstellung astrologischer Entwicklungen in den letzten Jahrzehnten.
    Eine Entschlüsselung dieser Entwicklungen mit Hilfe der Astrologie selbst bietet der Autor, indem er jedem Kapitel eine Zeit- und Ortsangabe zuordnet. Das ist das wirklich Neue und Einmalige an diesem Werk, und könnte eine neue Form (astrologischer) Literatur einleiten. Dafür benötigt es allerdings einige astrologische Kenntnisse und die Fähigkeit analogen Denkens, das die Basis der astrologischen WISSENSCHAFT darstellt. Um die Umwelt begrifflich zu erfassen, steht analoges Denken am Anfang der menschlichen Entwicklung. Das wird ja von der heutigen Wissenschaft zum Teil immer noch ignoriert, obwohl unsere Sprachfähigkeit darauf aufbaut und auch z.b. Psychologie nicht ohne Analogien denkbar ist.
    Mit dem astrologischen Schlüssel wird es möglich, Hintergründe und Motive der einzelnen Personen besser einordnen zu können. Dieser Zugang zur kosmischen Matrix des faktischen Geschehens ist die eigentliche geheimwissenschaftliche Dimension dieses Werkes. Dazu bietet der Autor durch seine Programmierkenntnisse auch weiterführende, technische Werkzeuge. Zuletzt sei noch auf den astrologischen Erscheinungszeitpunkt dieser Arbeit hingewiesen, auf den Durchlauf des Planeten Neptun durch das Zeichen der Fische, wo sich Fakes und fakten wild durcheinander paaren. Nicht umsonst lautet der Untertitel »Eine gänzlich unwahre Geschichte«.

  4. Rezension von Bekenner auf LovelyBooks zu "Die Herzheilerin – und andere Grausamkeiten": Evi und Max ermitteln grenzübergreifend im Bundeswehrveteranenmilieu. Wer treibt die Veteranen in den Suizid? Und wie macht er das? Humor mit Hintergrund. Jürgen G. H. Hoppmann lässt in seinem zweiten Thriller wieder Evi und Max als Detektive ohne Ausbildung von der Leine. Ohne Ausbildung ist nicht ganz richtig, denn Evi hat in ihrer Jugend schon eine Menge auf dem Kerbholz und wäre froh, wenn ihre Akte gesäubert würde. Auch ein Grund, diesen Auftrag anzunehmen, und für Max ist es schon ein Herzensanliegen. Es geht um seine Kameraden, die unter „Friendly Fire“ durchknallen und Unschuldige mit in den Tod reißen.

    Obersalzberg? Da war doch was? Genau und das, wie die ganze Nazizeit wird mit bissigem Humor immer mal wieder an markanten Orten und Stellen aufs Korn genommen. Jürgen G. H. Hoppmann hat einen feinen Humor und ich konnte über vieles herzhaft lachen, nicht weil es Schenkelklopfer, sondern mich als Bewohner „Dunkeldeutschlands“ zum Lachen gebracht hat.
    Wie immer gibt es zwei Seiten und manchmal bin ich so in einer Entschuldigungshaltung, es gibt auch ein positives, helles, buntes Sachsen…“, dass ich sehr verspannt bin und er Physiotherapeut wohl auch sagen würde: „Ja mei, sana des hart die Arschbacken! Sachsen-Rico…. Mia wurscht, wann‘s endlich locker lassen würdest.“ Ich verkrampfe mich schon, um Ja nicht in das Bild geschoben zu werden, was ich nicht teile, die „AFD und Co“, da mein Herz politisch linker schlägt. Die ganzen Anspielungen auf Esoterik und Co sind auch köstlich. Genau so, wie das oft verwendete „nu“ oder das „nunu“ oder das „nununu“. Glaubt nicht, dass es dasselbe ist in der Bedeutung. Auch wie das „nu“ ausgesprochen wird, ist wichtig. Mit „nu“ können wir Sachsen stundenlange Gespräche führen.
    Jürgen G. H. Hoppmann legt im Thriller „Die Herzheilerin“ eine Menge Spuren. Es gibt viele Verdächtige. Evi, die hochschwanger ist, schiebt sich mit ihrem dicken Bauch (der Geburtstermin rückt im Laufe des Buches immer näher), durch verschiedene Länder und Situationen. Auf der Suche nach Hintergrundinfos, also wegen Recherche, landet sie im polnischen Gefängnis. Da sind die Niederlanden schon schöner. Auf jeden Fall …. höre ich hier auf mit Spoilern. Lest einfach das Buch und genießt den Humor, lernt etwas Sächsisch und fangt mit „nu“ an. Polnische Schimpfwörter gibt es aber auch. Auf jeden Fall ist es ein tolles Buch, was sich zu lesen lohnt.
  5. Rezension von Maik Hosang: Das Buch "Ebertin – Licht und Schatten deutscher Astrologie im 20. Jahrhundert" von Jürgen Hoppmann ist eine kenntnisreiche, aber zugleich humorvolle und kritische Darstellung eines in dieser Komplexität bisher noch nicht reflektierten Bereichs unserer Kulturgeschichte. Im ersten Teil des Buches werden vor allem Leben und Wirken der in Görlitz geborenen Astrologin Elsbeth Ebertin detailreich gewürdigt. Sie war die erste professionell als Astrologin arbeitende Frau in Deutschland und zwischen den Weltkriegen die bekannteste Astrologie-Publizistin.
    Hoppmann gelingt es, eine facettenreiche Persönlichkeit in ihrem historischen Kontext lebendig werden zu lassen und dabei sowohl ihre Leistungen als auch die Herausforderungen ihrer Zeit differenziert darzustellen. Kritische Verquickungen ihres Wirkens in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus werden dabei nicht ausgespart. Über Ebertins astrologische Leidenschaft hinaus werden aber auch andere ihrer Wirkungsfelder gewürdigt: so ihr aus Anlass des 300. Todestages von Jacob Böhme veröffentlichtes Buch. Darin prognostiziert sie, dass die weltweit inspirierende Wirkung dieses wohl berühmtesten Görlitzers auch in den folgenden Jahrhunderten anhalten wird.
    Das Leben Ebertins endete 1944 bei einem Luftangriff der britischen Royal Air Force auf Freiburg im Breisgau. Doch die von ihr mitinitiierte Geschichte der Astrologie in Deutschland ging auch nach 1945 munter weiter. Anhand des Wirkens ihres Sohnes Reinhold Ebertin sowie dessen Sohnes Baldur Ebertin, aber auch zahlreicher weiterer prägnanter und teilweise skurriler Akteure der Astrologiegeschichte berichtet Hoppmann auf ebenso detailreiche und humorvolle Weise auch über all diese weiteren Jahrzehnte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Das gelingt ihm deshalb so lebendig, weil er selbst Astrologe ist und vielen ihrer Vertreter persönlich begegnete, mit ihnen im Austausch stand, mit ihnen stritt oder zusammenarbeitete.
    Insgesamt ist dieses Buch eine so komplex und vielseitig bisher nie zusammengedachte und in weiten Zügen sehr abenteuerlich und unterhaltsam zu lesende Story über die Astrologie und Geschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Eine Empfehlung für alle, die es mögen, Kulturgeschichte auch mal aus ungewöhnlichen Perspektiven zu betrachten.

Art and Stars

In his horoscope interpretations, Hoppmann favors feminist astrology – that is, he considers not only Chiron and Rahu, but also Ketu, Lilith, and Priapus, as can be seen in his astrological books and computer programs. Since 1990, he has collaborated with Akron C.F. Frey, Laurids Pedersen, Ananda Bagley, Anita Cortesi, Astrid Fallon and Hans-Hinrich Taeger. He ported the works of renowned astrologers such as Akron C. F. Frey, Raymond Daelman, Baldur Ebertin and Alexander von Pronay to software platforms like PCA, Argus, Hermes, Galistro, and AstroGlobe, and published his own interpretive texts.

After studying astrology with Otto Kayser and Wolfgang Trautmann in West Berlin he taught the subject in the West and, from 1980 to 1985, clandestinely and undercover in the theater and art scene of East Germany. When the Berlin Wall fell, he interviewed, among others, Claude Weiss on his weekly program on Radio 100.

Hoppmann compiled data on Gregor Gysi and Joachim Gauck, among others. During his data research, he consulted with Werner E. Neumann, Jayatissa Dharmadasa, Jany Bessiere, Gufran Erkelic, Claudia von Schierstedt, Siegbert Meß, Heinz Specht, Dr. Svatopluk Svobod, Richard Vetter, Alexander von Vietinghoff and his student Axel Becker, as well as Hans-Hinrich Taeger, the Astrological Association of Great Britain, (which he joined after leaving German DAV), and the astrological societies of South Africa and New Zealand.

From 1993 to 1997, he curated a museum exhibitiong on Philipp Melanchthon Between 1998 and 2000, further projects followed, focusing on Doktor Faustus, the Ancient Star Gods, in then Abguss-Sammlung Antiker Plastik Berlin and an AA congress in the UK. Hinzu „Melanchthons Astrologie“ (Katalog zur Wittenberger Ausstellung) bis hin zu „Astrologie der Reformationszeit“ (1998).He also published several works on the history of astrology – from "Culture and Cosmos" (Vol. 1, No. 2, 1997) and "Melanchthon's Astrology" (catalog for the Wittenberg exhibition) to "Astrology of the Reformation" (1998).

As a freelance contributor to public broadcasting corporations, he worked for RBB, ORF, and MDR, among others, until 2004. He appeared in film and television, dubbed animated films, and collaborated with artists. From 2003 to 2007, he produced the feature film AstroEurosas a screenwriter and director, featuring, among others, astrologer Winfried S. Noé and singers Linda Jo Rizzo Linda Jo Rizzo and Ron Williams. He contributed weekly German and Polish cable television programs (Stellarius, Madame Stella) from 2010 to 2013. Since then, he has produced annual Stellar Constellations in cooperation with Electric Ephemeris. He so created well over one hundred video clips and educational films for the Philosophy Experience Center „Sofia“at LebensGut Pommritz.

Specialist astrological publications and novels followed: 2021 "Der Astrologe - eine gänzlich unwahre Geschichte" (illustrated by Lorenzo Gori; audiobook narrated by Moritz Manuel Michel, with English version by Philip Fairweather and Polish version by Krystyna Sławińska) and 2023 "Die Herzheilerin" (illustrated by Patricia Cooney). "Der Sänger, der alles sieht", illustrated by Aleksandra Ozimek, is currently in preparation.

At the end of 2025, "Ebertin – Light and Shadow of German Astrology in the 20th Century" was published, acknowledging and expanding upon the pioneering work of the American astrologer, art historian, and film scholar Jenn Zahrt. In his critical study, he contrasts the life and work of Elsbeth Ebertin, her son Reinhold, and her nephew Baldur (especially during the Nazi era) with the biographies of Polish astrologers such as Robert Maria Walter, Leszek Szuman and Leszek Weres during the Holocaust and the subsequent Stalinist period. The book also addresses Nazi-looted and Stasi-looted astrological material found in private collections and antiquarian bookstores. Politically, Jürgen G, H, Hoppmann is affiliated with VOLT Europa.

Hoppmann ignores conventional East-West categories and left-right thinking in his works. Instead, he draws astrological inspiration from Akron C.F. Frey and Liz Greene, historical inspiration from Katja Hoyer and Nicholas Campion, film inspiration from Wolfgang Kohlhaase and Alejandro Jodorowsky, literary models are Colin Cotterill and Wolfgang Herrndorf.

Numerous articles from specialist magazines like Hagia Chora and Friedrich Meiers merCur, being archived both at Nicholas Campion’s Culture and Cosmos and ASTROLOGIE HEUTE, but not in the MERIDIAN-Archiv under Markus Jehle and Martin Garms. This is noteworthy, especially regarding the topics of Nazi astrology and the East German State Security (Stasi). One such path is to explore a cultural era in which the discipline flourished. By studying the biographies of key figures in the history of astrology, one can hope to gain a deeper understanding of the practice itself. For anyone wishing to take this path — or simply wanting to be captivated by the vibrant, spirited panorama of the Humanist and Renaissance eras that the author unfolds before us — Astrology of the Reformation comes highly recommended.
    In twelve chapters—corresponding thematically to the signs of the zodiac—the author presents twelve different perspectives on astrology during the Reformation. It was an era of wild predictions of a Great Flood and of massive political and religious upheaval. The Peasants' War marked the beginning of the end for feudal rule. With the Reformation, Christianity experienced perhaps its greatest shocks since its inception. The advent of the printing press and the founding of universities signaled the end of the "Dark Ages" — a time when education and the intellect came into their own—even as the darkest superstitions spread and the Inquisition began its campaign of mass murder. It is hardly surprising, then, that the biographies of the astrologers from this period read almost like a novel, given the dramatic lives they led. Hoppmann recounts the stories of Johannes Carion and his astro-political entanglements, Johann Stöffler’s ambiguous marginal note in his ephemerides, and figures such as Giordano Bruno, Lucas Gauricus, and Johannes Schöner—as well as, of course, the legendary Doctor Johann Faust, whose name appears in the book’s title. Also featured is the fierce opponent of astrology Pico della Mirandola, who, even back then, railed against the "audacity" with which astrology sought to join the ranks of the sciences. The astrologers mentioned (though not Pico, of course) belong to the circle of the reformer Philipp Melanchthon, whose life and work at the Leucorea in Wittenberg form a kind of unifying thread throughout this book.
    Several gems—previously available only in Latin—are presented here in German for the first time: the first part of the famous "Oratio Dignitate Astrologiae", delivered in 1535 by his student Jacob Millich, and the letter Melanchthon wrote to the astrologer Simon Gryneus (used as a preface to Sacrobosco’s *De Sphaera*), printed here in full. The book is richly and attractively illustrated. The chapters are followed by excerpts from the *Astronomia Teutsch* (1583), featuring interpretive texts on the signs and planets as well as various other details—such as information on bloodletting, sundials, and "the rulers of the hours and the selection of auspicious times for all beginnings." A highly recommended read for all enthusiasts of astrology!

Review by Otto Kayser zu "The Astrologer - a downright untruthful affair" (translated from German): It is particularly recommended for astrologers themselves: they will learn a great deal about themselves and the evolution of astrology over recent decades. Admittedly, the style—the linguistic tone—is somewhat rough and takes some getting used to; there is no refined, esoteric fluff here, but rather a realistic, down-to-earth approach that doesn't shy away from sex. It employs the kind of salty language spoken today. And although the story involves extensive international travel, the plot remains grounded in Germany — specifically Dresden.
    However, it is unlikely to receive glowing reviews from traditional astrologers. From personal experience with astrology associations, I know just how prudish, uptight, and backward the atmosphere can be. This artistic interpretation of astrology is likely too progressive—too "Aquarian"—for many astrologers, even those who style themselves as trendy psychological astrologers. The book is recommended to anyone wishing to explore new horizons within the ancient science of astrology—and to do so in a highly entertaining and gripping way.
    With "pop astrology" currently experiencing another boom, this book arrives at the perfect moment to highlight what else is possible with astrology—demonstrating, for instance, that it lends itself to artistic expression. After all, Schiller once sought astrological advice from Goethe for his "Wallenstein". The author has a diverse track record of exploring astrological themes through art—including exhibitions, films, and critical historical studies—while also being a skilled programmer and consultant. Consequently, the book is a blend of fantasy, esotericism, mystery, fact and fiction, secret societies, and critical historical analysis. It can be read on various levels: superficially as a fast-paced thriller or science fiction story, or more deeply as a coded account of astrological developments over the last few decades.
    The author himself offers a way to decipher these developments through the lens of astrology by assigning a specific time and location to each chapter. This is the truly novel and unique aspect of the work, and it could herald a new form of (astrological) literature. However, this requires some astrological knowledge and the capacity for analogical thinking—the very foundation of the *science* of astrology. Analogical thinking lies at the origin of human development, serving as the means by which we conceptually grasp the world around us. Yet, modern science often overlooks this fact, even though our linguistic abilities are built upon it and disciplines such as psychology are inconceivable without the use of analogies.
    Using this astrological key makes it possible to better contextualize the backgrounds and motives of the individuals involved. This access to the cosmic matrix underlying actual events constitutes the work's true esoteric dimension. Leveraging his programming expertise, the author also provides additional technical tools to facilitate this exploration. Finally, it is worth noting the astrological timing of the work’s release: the transit of the planet Neptune through the sign of Pisces—a period characterized by the wild intermingling of fact and fabrication. It is no coincidence that the subtitle reads: "A downright untruthful affair."

Review by Bekenner auf LovelyBooks zu "The Heart Healer - and other atrocities" (translated from German): Evi and Max conduct a cross-border investigation within the milieu of Bundeswehr veterans. Who is driving these veterans to suicide? And how are they doing it? It is a story with humor and substance. In his second thriller, Jürgen G. H. Hoppmann once again unleashes Evi and Max—detectives with no formal training. Well, "no training" isn't quite accurate; Evi has a rather checkered past from her youth and would be glad to have her record wiped clean. That is one reason for taking the job, while for Max, it is a deeply personal mission. It concerns his comrades—soldiers who snap due to "friendly fire" incidents and drag innocent people to their deaths along with them.
    So, they go undercover, traveling from Saxony to Bavaria—specifically, the Obersalzberg.
    Obersalzberg? That rings a bell, doesn't it? Exactly—and that location, along with the entire Nazi era, is frequently satirized with biting humor at key moments and places. Jürgen G. H. Hoppmann has a wonderful sense of humor; I found myself laughing heartily at many things—not because they were crude "knee-slappers," but because they resonated with me as a resident of "Dark Germany" [a derogatory term for East Germany].
    As always, there are two sides to the story. Sometimes I find myself so defensive—insisting that there is also a positive, bright, and colorful side to Saxony—that I tense up completely. A physiotherapist would probably say: "Good grief, those are some tight glutes! 'Saxony-Rico'… I don't care, just loosen up already." I find myself tensing up because I am terrified of being pigeonholed into a political image I don't share—that of the "AfD and their ilk"—since my heart leans to the political left. The various allusions to New Age spirituality and the like are also delightful. Just like the frequently used "nu," "nunu," or "nununu." Don't be fooled into thinking they all mean the same thing; the way "nu" is pronounced matters, too. We Saxons can hold hours-long conversations using just the word "nu."
    In the thriller "The Heart Healer", Jürgen G. H. Hoppmann lays out plenty of clues. There are many suspects. Evi, heavily pregnant, makes her way through various countries and situations with her large belly (her due date drawing ever closer as the story unfolds). In search of background information—that is, while doing research—she ends up in a Polish prison. The Netherlands are certainly nicer. In any case... I’ll stop with the spoilers here. Just read the book and enjoy the humor; learn a bit of Saxon and start using "nu." There are Polish swear words in there, too. All in all, it’s a great book that is well worth reading.

Review by Maik Hosang (translated from German): Jürgen Hoppmann’s book "Ebertin – Light and Shadow of German Astrology in the 20th Century" offers a knowledgeable, yet humorous and critical, account of a facet of our cultural history that had not previously been examined with such complexity. The first part of the book provides a detailed appreciation of the life and work of Elsbeth Ebertin, an astrologer born in Görlitz. She was Germany’s first professional female astrologer and the most prominent writer on astrology during the interwar period.
    Hoppmann succeeds in bringing a multifaceted personality to life within her historical context, presenting a nuanced view of both her achievements and the challenges of her era. He does not shy away from addressing the problematic entanglements of her work during the Nazi regime. Beyond her passion for astrology, the book also acknowledges other areas of her activity—such as the book she published to mark the 300th anniversary of the death of Jacob Böhme. In it, she predicted that the global influence of this—arguably Görlitz’s most famous—figure would endure for centuries to come.
    Ebertin’s life came to an end in 1944 during a British Royal Air Force air raid on Freiburg im Breisgau. Yet the history of astrology in Germany—which she had helped shape—continued vigorously after 1945. Hoppmann chronicles the subsequent decades of the 20th century with the same level of detail and humor, focusing on the work of her son Reinhold Ebertin and her grandson Baldur Ebertin, as well as numerous other significant—and sometimes eccentric—figures in the history of astrology. His account is so vivid precisely because he is an astrologer himself; he met many of these practitioners in person, exchanged ideas with them, and engaged in both debates and collaborations. All in all, this book offers a story about astrology and 20th-century history that is complex and multifaceted—combining elements in ways never before conceived—and makes for a highly adventurous and entertaining read. It is recommended for anyone who enjoys viewing cultural history from unusual perspectives.
